Escape to Zanzibar

Beyond Tanzania’s wild plains lies an island shaped by the ocean. Wander through the historic streets of Stone Town, sail across turquoise waters and slow down on beaches where life follows the rhythm of the tides.

An Island Shaped by Many Worlds

Zanzibar is more than a place to rest after safari. It is an island of coral-stone streets, spice farms, fishing villages and warm Indian Ocean waters. African, Arab, Indian and European influences have met here over centuries, creating a culture unlike anywhere else in Tanzania.

From the historic lanes of Stone Town to the quiet shores of Matemwe and Jambiani, every part of the island offers its own character. Come for the beaches, but leave remembering the people, flavours and stories that give Zanzibar its soul.

Zanzibar - Stone town

Stone Town, Written in Coral and Time

On the western edge of the island, Stone Town rises from the sea in a maze of narrow passages, coral-stone buildings and beautifully carved doors.

Its streets tell the story of centuries of Swahili coastal life and exchange across the Indian Ocean. Markets open in the morning, the call to prayer moves above the rooftops and food stalls gather around the waterfront as evening arrives.

Spend a night or two here before travelling to the coast. Explore with a local guide, meet the people behind the old buildings and discover a town that is still very much alive.

Discover the Island

There is no single way to experience Zanzibar. Your days can move from ancient streets and fragrant spice farms to coral reefs, traditional dhow sails and evenings beneath the palms.

Explore Stone Town

Walk through narrow streets lined with carved doors, bustling markets, old merchant houses and quiet courtyards. Every corner carries a piece of Zanzibar’s long history.

Visit a Spice Farm

Discover the cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and tropical fruits that gave Zanzibar its name as the Spice Island.

Sail on a Traditional Dhow

Take to the Indian Ocean aboard a wooden dhow and watch the island fade into the horizon as the sun settles over the water.

Snorkel and Dive

Explore warm, clear waters filled with coral gardens and marine life. Experiences can be arranged for beginners and experienced divers.

Walk Through Jozani Forest

Enter one of Zanzibar’s last remaining indigenous forests and look for the island’s red colobus monkeys among the trees.

Taste Zanzibar

Enjoy fresh seafood, tropical fruit and dishes shaped by Swahili, Arab and Indian influences. The island’s history can be tasted as clearly as it can be seen.
